My services

My aim is educating and helping parents read, interpret and respond to infant behaviour, to build well developed relationships and enhance normal developmental milestones, through age-appropriate play activities.

My services

Baby massage has unique benefits for your child’s development and I show parents and caregivers how to do a therapeutic baby massage.

We use a doll at first to learn the techniques and methods, however parents and caregivers may bring their baby along to get first hand practice.

Tummy time should start the moment mom and baby are discharged from hospital.

NICU babies need to follow-up one month after discharge, irrespective of the chronological/corrected age or diagnosis.

Caregivers are also invited to join in the sessions, as they will care for the infant, when the mom returns to work.

Playstations or changing stations are a great way to build well developed relationships and enhance normal developmental milestones, through age-appropriate play activities.

I enjoy teaching parents and caregivers that the changing station should be on the floor, as it needs to become the playstation, as time progresses.  Gravity between the floor and the baby stays the same, as it feels different from when being changed on the bed or the couch.

Come and see, come and learn.

Support for parents and caregivers is a vital part of the formula to raise a happy and healthy child.

I offer support groups for parents who had a difficult birthing story and need to adjust to their new bundle of joy.

This group is primarily aimed at parents who had babies in the NICU/Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). As Prof Welma Lubbe said – you need to adjust your dream, when reality hits.

Not all NICU babies get discharged to their earthly home…

My solutions

The long hand

The long hand consists of small plastic balls and has a certain length and weight.  The weight is needed to simulate the womb, especially for babies that were born prematurely.

The long hand provides deep pressure to the baby, so that the mother/caregiver can remove her hand after she placed the baby back in their cot.  Essentially it will feel as if the mother is still holding the baby.

An infant must be put to sleep while in the drowsy sleep state so that the infant can learn to self-soothe and fall asleep by himself.

Weighted blankets

If your child is a restless sleeper, this may just be the answer.

These blankets are custom-made according to the infant’s weight and length.  Some infants need more deep pressure than others

What are the benefits of using a weighted blanket?

Weighted blankets are therapeutic blankets and the pressure from the extra weight mimics a therapeutic technique called deep pressure.

Deep pressure uses hands-on pressure to relax the nervous system. Doing so may help:

Deep pressure doesn’t have to be completely hands-on. With weighted blankets, the same pressure comes from having the blanket covered over the body, when going to sleep.
